halloween parties

had a nice nite yesterday. went with joe lane, dressed as oscar the grouch, to the unr art dept's halloween party. hung out with the kids, got my picture taken with jeanne jo, got in a wrestling match with natalie rishe then she threw beer on me so i had to throw some back and it ended with trina yelling at me. i made it up to her though, afterwards when we went to deb's keystone bar i got nabbed the scary looking cartoon bear shapped sign and took it to her house.

so bill spaceman tells me this analogy that was related to him: girls are like parking spots either they're already taken or they're <motion with hand> way out there, the frustrating part is you always see a closer one once you've parked.

joe rules my boobs

i came home tonight to a toilet papered yard. the disturbing part about it was "joe" with a heart next to is spelled out in toilet paper on the lawn. the wierd love letter written on toilet paper hanging from the mailbox with such memorable lines as "joe rules my boobs" and "me + joe lane = true love". of course "i want to be mrs. joe lane" written in chalk on the front porch was funny too, but i'm not sure what to make of the halloween bag full of clif bars and candy next to it. i don't think joe will start complaining about not having a girlfriend any time soon.

detention

have you wondered what happens when the fbi get to detain you with out charges? the best is the quote:

''At the end I said to myself, These guys are clueless,'' Hazmi said later. ''How can they figure out who is behind this thing? I would suggest that Americans don't rely on the F.B.I. I say, God must protect America instead.''

drama in the mideast

i'm not a very emotional person but the shit the israelis are up to is pretty fucked up. the fact there's very little i can do to stop it makes me want to start punching walls.

more than anything i'm scared that i'm having a tough time condemning their suicide attacks. if i was in the same position, having been told for the last 6 years that if we're good we'll get most of our country back, watching the israelis coming instead of going, i'd do what every was in my power to make their stay as miserable as possible. having to go to sleep every night with the lights from the jewish settlements on the tops of hills gloating at me. not being able to build a house or drill a well on my property because the israelis won't give me a permit.

half of me wants to see it explode, at least the us will finally have to act. but i know that will just cause the deaths of thousands. i worry for my friends there, how are they doing, will an israeli tank shell explode in their living room?

fun with bsd

i spend the entire day playing unix. i just wanted to get the newer version of postgresql working so i updated my /usr/ports directory. after that i spend hours recompiling to newer versions. got apache 1.3.22, php 4.0.6 (with imap but sadly no gd) and finally postgresql 7.1.3. it was a pretty productive day in terms of learning stuff but i don't really feel like i got much done.

goings on

oh i guess that link didn't work in the last post... anyway i've got my schema laid out for the system i'm going to setup on my home machine to replace blogger. i'm pumped hopefully in the process i'll get up to speed enough on postgres that porting the old stuff will go smoothly.

did a boyscout campout this weekend, as always i'm glad i don't have to see them the rest of the week. we went to dog valley and did the digging on crystal peak thing, i still smell like campfire smoke.

learning freebsd

instead of working today i got apache, php, and postresql working on my home server. learned alot about the ports collection on freebsd. take my word for it, it's your friend. the short of this (as opposed to the long) is that i can finally start porting all my old web apps.

okay bush is annoying again

oh i almost forgot take the bin laden/faldwell/robertson quiz where you try to decide which religious fanatic made which statement.

so now bush wants us not to air bin laden's video statements because he might be passing, in a ominous tone, "secret messages". bullshit bush just doesn't want to have bin laden getting any air time. the terrorist would just watch the statement on al-jazeera (which the us is trying to shutdown) and in the the us picks the WRONG countries to support category: india finds evidence that high ranking pakistani army officers gave direct monetary support to the wtc terrorists. why the hell are we siding with pakistan? india is a democracy not a dictatorship.

on the way back from

on the way back from slc, i got hooked up by the delta yet again due to an overbooking. this time i got $350 credit, 3000 frequent flyer miles, dinner, breakfast and they put me up for the night.

upon my return to rno i asked the airport police for my knife back, they lady at the desk was super nice, she dug through a few quart plastic bags of corkscrews, nail files, and pocket knives. aparently mine never made it to the airport police one of those dirtbag security guards grabed it.

in other bad news i found out from dan that jenny jen flaked out on the trip to portland. he said she said she'd sent an email but, i guess i never got it. well i'm scrambling for a backup plan.

okay after making three flights

okay after making three flights to get from rno to bna all i've got to say is that airport "security" is a bunch of snake oil. i was late for my flight (which left at 6:45 which is a pretty ungodly hour when you factor in the hour and a half they want you to be there early) and as i was running through the "security" checkpoint they double scanned my bag before asking if they could open it.
"sure, lets get moving" i told them.
"you got a leatherman in there don't you?".
"fuck. yeah." this was going to take a while...
"well you're going to have to take it back and check it".
"is that my only option? my flight leaves in ten minutes"
"that's pretty much it"
and off i ran less a leatherman wave. as i was halfway to salt lake city it hit me. i'd just thrown away a 60 dollar knife and they still hadn't secured the cabin. they'd totally missed another pocketknife with a 3-inch blade. i tossed that fucker in a garbage can first thing once i got in the airport incase they were searching people. i never did get searched but i watched them pull four or five people aside to look through their bags and thoroughly metal detect them. i guess the "computer" was "randomly" selecting people.
