phil cater, who runs intel dump an excellent military/foreign policy blog, has a post detailing the ever expanding usage off the enemy combatant label.
reason has a great article on why ex-convicts should be given back the vote.
i think it's a bit of a no-brainer. if you've served your time and finished your parole you ought to be able to vote (but probably not own a gun). hopefully, it'd cut down on the number of tough-on-crime-let's-not-bother-with-rehabilitation politicians and stupid drug laws.
the local free wirless group personal telco has unwired pge park (the local stadium where the psu teams play) and in the process freaked out the park's management. i guess they were worried they'd piss off, comcast, one of the other sponsors. heck, now i can go out and support the team and get some work done at the same time.
dude, mozilla keeps getting better and better. ted mielczarek put together an extension for mozilla/firebird that prevents flash applets from being loaded until you click on them. now i can actually install flash and see all the cool games with out having to see all the fucking ads. well i'd been looking at the bianchi siss for quite a while now and yesterday i finally broke down and bought it. man oh man, it rides like a dream. i'll probably be posting even less now that i've got a fun new bike to ride.
wow i realized i haven't posted in a while. the whole not having internet in the apartment is really cutting down on my time online. last weekend krista and i went down to corvallis to see her folks. i got to meet her grandparents and listen to her psychotic german shepherd bark at me the entire time. her parent's nickname for it is "last dog", as in the last dog they'd ever have. i thought that was pretty funny.
i spent a few hours trying to teach krista to drive a stick shift. she's getting pretty good at it. there was one memorable incident where she was trying to get it started going up a hill and it just kept stalling. she was asking me why it wasn't working and i kept saying "just give it more gas". well, low and behold, she got it going then asked me if she needed to shift into second. the rpms sounded low enough and then *click* it all made sense, she'd managed to get started in third gear.
now we're planning our next trip. it's looking like a epic sweep through california with a visit to disneyland and yosemite hitting burningman on the way back. more later
